What an interview is ?

An interview is an inter-action between an employer and a candidate ,for both the parties to know each other for the purpose of recruitment for the company.

You and the interviewer both have a need:

You need a job.
He needs the RIGHT candidate to fill in the position.

(Remember : Employers need to run business profitably, so their need of quality candidate is more than your need of just getting a job)

The purpose of an interview :

1. To obtain a statement or opinion -as is done when film stars are interviewed to have their view on the kind of role they are playing in a forthcoming film
2. To assess a person- such as interview for a job, admission to educational institutions ,etc.

Stages of a typical interview:

1. Introduction: This is the time for the FIRST IMPRESSION. While only lasting for a few seconds -your dress, eye contact and greetings will do the majors.

2. Discussion of your background, education, work experience, activities , interests ,temperament and goals: This is the stage when all the typical questions will be asked to you .This is typically the longest stage of an interview. Questions are

a. Background::Name,Education,FamilyBackground,hobbies,StrengthWeakness,Career Vision, Why You/Why this course-company?

b. I) On Academics/Area Of Specialization ( For Freshers ) ::
Basic Concepts, Latest in the related field etc
II) On Experience / KRA ::
Candidate is asked about the span of work , reporting authorities,

c. Attitude / Personality related:: to judge the set of personal traits ,values.

d. Negotiations:: Questions are based on Salaries, Designation, Location.

3. Your questions: Feel free to ask questions BUT take care not to offend the interviewer and exaggerate your set of questions. If a fresher, never talk about the perks ,salary etc .knowing about your profile shows that you are a keen worker but do not ask so if already mentioned.

What is the interviewer seeking?

1. What can you do for him and his high esteemed organization?
2. Why do you want to work with them, (why not some other firm)?
3. What are you like once he has hired you (he would emphasize more on motivation, problem solving capability, initiation, adaptability, creativity etc and how well you retain them once you are employed).

Types of interviews:

The era is of MULTI-STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESS wherein you go through multiple and consecutive stages of interview viz. (not necessarily in the same sequence).

Telephonic
One-To-One
Panel/Committee interview

Screening interview.
These can be further separated as TECHNICAL, HR etc.
